Married my girlfriend from university and can honestly say that after all these years she is still my best friend. Good thing since divorces are way too expensive.
One daughter in elementary school. Try to instill good financial practices in her and while I sometimes wonder if she is paying attention when I talk, she inevitably does something or says something that brings a smile across my face (eg. Dad, why would someone borrow money to buy a car? Its a depreciable asset.)....out of the mouth of babes!
Enjoy investing. Shy away from mutual funds. Much prefer investing in good quality public companies with the intent of never selling.
My wife and I also own residential properties within a short walking distance to one of our country's major universities. I was much younger when I attended this university and can remember living "off-campus" with three friends in a "dump". At the time I never thought one of the benefits this university would provide me in the future would be an endless supply of medical school students requiring a place to live! Students who are serious about their studies and the parents on the leases! We love it!! All we need to do is make sure we treat our tenants the way I would have liked to have been treated when I was living in the "dump".
