A Real President

Thursday, September 4, 2008 | Kurt (keosburn) Is this Spam?

Rating:

We spend nearly 10% of our federal budget in interest. We are not even paying principal. Because we as a country are constantly spending more than we earn, next year we will spend more of our budget in interest. The year after, we will spend more in interest. The year after that, we will spend more in interest. Not to state the obvious, but we are going the wrong way.

If we don't change our addiction to overspending, when are we going to stop? 25% of our budget spent in interest? 50% spent in interest? 100% spent in interest? Bankruptcy? When is enough, enough?

About a year ago, Congress, in a rare moment of wisdom, raised our credit card minimum payments because if we paid only the minimum payments, we would barely be making the interest payment: our debt would perpetually be with us and never be repaid. Congress recognized that we as individuals must repay our debts, what have they done as our representatives?

A real President would stop this madness. A real President would say enough is enough. A real President would tell us like it is: we created a financial disaster. A real President would put water on this fire, not fuel. A real President would fight, not pander.

A real President would cut government 6% a year for four years, not celebrate controlled growth. A real President would cut bureaucracy, not grow it. A real President would throw the lobbyists out, not invite them in. A real President would throw the criminals out, not invite them in. A real President would make the parties mad, not celebrate with them.

A real President would act, not just talk. A real President would turn this car around, not drive faster toward destruction. A real President would lead, not negotiate. A real President...

Is there a real President among us?
