Invest at home first ! Shouldn't we pay ourselves first??

Greetings,

I think we need to stop sending money to countries each time they're hit with problems(Georgia = 1 Billion). Invest at home first!

I think we need to stop rebuilding areas that shouldn't be built (New Orleans + Flordia Coast + Malibu + anywhere we build in the desert). Invest at home first!

I think we need to stop loop holes that allow people to scam the government for money (Free Breakfast and lunch programs at schools, Medicare for those able to work, etc). Pay those willing to work - John Smith quote from Jamestown settlement in Colony of Virginia "Those that don't work - won't eat!"

We ARE AMERICANS and CAN do ANYTHING WE WANT - but feeding everyone - and allowing the same errors/ mistakes to happen over and over ---- shame on us?!

Thanks

Your arguement has much more validity as far as foreign policy goes than on domestic policy, IMHO. It is true that we should consider the sustainability of developing an area before we make huge investments. That said, if "they" (FEMA) had fixed the New Orleans levees when the problem was first known, rather than waiting for Katrina to virtually destroy much of the city, the overall cost would have been substantially less. Now the hotel developers seem to want to take over land where low-income families lived. That's not right!

Breakfast and lunch subsidies (which help kids learn better) for those whose parents are in poverty, and programs that encourage those on welfare to return to work, are investments in the future of the country, and worth an upfront cost to prevent a greater future cost. Statistics show that abuses are more widely publicized than prevalent, but certainly responsible oversight is needed to prevent abuse. "Buy American" was a cry of the 1970s, and is worth heeding now. Investing in clean energy would not only help our environment, but also help our economy by allowing American businesses to gain technological expertise needed to develop new products to export to the rest of the world--thus helping unemployment.
